Description This special edition is a run of fine handsaws to celebrate our 100 years of manufacturing here in Sheffield, England. Our company founder, Thomas Flinn started making saws in 1923, in a small workshop in industrial quarters in Sheffield. This was hard and dirty work and as time progressed, his eager apprentice (Frank Ellis) purchased the business in 1936, which is how our family came to own Thomas Flinn. Thomas Flinn has always been an umbrella company for the other brands we manufacture. This saw reflects some of our history, using a recreation of an old logo found on original brass plates for making the paper stencils used in an old fashioned acid marking process. (Original acid etching like this can be dated back to 1841 here in Sheffield.). We have had this redrawn adding our celebration dates on this, cleaning up the hand drawn lines but not losing that traditional feel. This is now laser marked on to the blades in a much cleaner, safer way than the old fashioned acid etching process. The saw has a Rosewood Handle. This is hand finished with Danish oil and has a celebration medallion with the traditional style, split nut screws and caps to finish this piece off. The blade is taper ground, with a straight tooth line and has a nib on the blade in a nod back to how many saws were made (which we believe was mainly for decoration). This is available in options, 20″, 22″, 24″, 26″ as 4.5tpi Rip (28″ also in a rip), 7tpi crosscut and 10tpi Panel saw options. Please select from the drop down box options. This is truly a wonderful saw celebrating saw making history and our 100 years See also the image of the street on which Thomas Flinn was operating from originally and shows a perfect example of the working/living conditions of people working in manufacturing in Sheffield.
