A very handsome pair of gilded French antique wall sconces with all the scrolling, flourishes and unapologetic detail you’d hope for. Deeply cast, gloriously ornate and finished in a beautifully time-worn gilt that’s mellowed to that perfect old gold, not brash, not shiny, just right. They’ve got real presence. The sculptural backplates are almost decorative panels in their own right, all acanthus curves and classical movement, and the faux candle sleeves complete the look without tipping into pastiche. At 41cm high by 13cm wide, they’re substantial without being overpowering — ideal flanking a mirror, over a console, either side of a chimney breast or bringing a bit of French swagger to a hallway. Condition is good with minor, honest age-related wear, recently fully rewired and tested, so they’re ready to go straight onto the wall.
